X1 Offers Web-like Search Experience for Personal Data on the Desktop

Latest Version of X1 Search Increases Power, Speed and Flexibility of Searching Email, Files and Attachments

PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 2004-- X1 Technologies, Inc., today released the latest update to its highly acclaimed business productivity software, X1(TM) Search. X1 brings to personal information on the desktop the search experience that, in the past, has been reserved for information on the web. Building on the success of X1 Search's initial launch earlier this year, this latest version, dubbed 04.08, includes numerous enhancements and additional features -- most of them in direct response to requests from X1's customers and users.
X1 Search is the fastest way for PC users to find what they're looking for and puts an end to the frustration of searching and waiting that they experience when attempting to locate a particular email or file. Through its patent-pending Invisible Index(TM) technology, X1 sorts through the thousands of email messages, attachments, files and other information on a local or network-attached hard drive and finds just the one the user wants. With each new keystroke, results are displayed and refined immediately, and search terms are highlighted -- in the list and in the documents themselves -- in contrasting colors.

"It is exciting to see X1 extending the capabilities of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office and making search so easy and effective," said Vic Gundotra, General Manager, Platform Evangelism, Microsoft Corporation. "X1's ability to instantly search across my machine, even my archived email makes it an indispensable tool for me. It is a great example of the innovation we continue to see first on the Windows platform."

Some of the most notable and highly requested features added to the updated version include:

-- The ability to perform phrase searches

-- Boolean search capabilities

-- The option to save frequently used searches for future use

-- Full support for attachments in Outlook Express and Netscape Mail

-- Increased maximum individual file size for content indexing from 10MB to 2GB

A complete list of improvements and new features can be found online at www.x1.com

X1 Search can be configured as a docked or hideaway taskbar at the top of the user's screen or as a standard window. Users choose the email folders and files they want to include to create their index and then select the Email, Files, Attachments or Contacts Tab to type their query.

"We strongly value the relationship we have with our customers -- who range from individuals in Fortune 500 companies to small business users -- and closely listen to their feedback, whether from our online forums or sent directly to us," said Mark Goodstein, Founder and EVP, Business Development, X1 Technologies. "They've helped us to create and evolve a product that fits their business needs and delivers the information they require instantaneously and in a way that maximizes their productivity."

X1 Search currently supports and indexes the contents of Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Mail and Eudora messages. X1's file filter technology (also upgraded in this new version) allows users to preview and index the contents of 255 files in their native formats, whether or not the native applications are installed, so Word files look like Word documents, Excel files like Excel spreadsheets, Acrobat (.pdf) files look like .pdf images and so on.

Pricing and System Requirements

X1 Search, regularly $99, can be purchased at a special introductory price of $74.95 through September 15, 2004, and is available for download at http://www.x1.com. Volume pricing is also available for purchases of five or more licenses. A full-featured, 15-day trial is offered online. The system requirements for X1 Search include Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, 128MB RAM (256MB RAM recommended) and 25MB of free hard disk space.
